Honest Affiliates

This is a topic I have written about in the past and can not stress enough the importance of being truthful and honest as an affiliate marketer.

There are guidelines to what we do have and it is with the ut-most respect I am repeating myself on this issue.

Affiliate Marketing is a serious bussiness to most of us. It is much like being a marketer off line except we are now inside the wonderful world of internet marketing.

What seperates the honest from the dishonest?

Honest:

  • Running it as a business with no intent to spam.
  • Knowing the product we promote.
  • Using the product or have used or tested or researched the products we promote.
  • Using opt-in forms for email subscribers with unsubscribe links for our prospects, leads and customers.
  • Being a true authority on the products and infomation we supply to our readers.

Not so Honest:

  • Fly by night grabbing up any affiliate link accessible and spamming all the way.
  • Not knowing a thing about the product being promoted.(DANGEROUSE TERRITORY)
  • Giving out unreseached information on products and promotions to readers
  • Not staying relevant to the community or social network sites and just tossing the line in the water. (This really pisses people off by the way)
  • Not responding to ussues your customer may have or questions they need answered. (Sign of Dis-Honesty)
  • Spamming email addresses with no care for compliance.

In many cases with the newer affiliate marketers these are just mistakes they make from being uninformed or are going through the learning curve of running a business with integrity.

This issue seems to be the catylist in this scenario.

  • The newbie as we like to call it, is desperate and is not looking at it as a business yet. The desire may be there to create an actual business but for right now there is no direction, they do not yet know were to get the answers they need and are flying by the seat of thier pants..Oh, and have possibly ran into some folks that are not the right mentors for them to follow.

Now for those out there that know the game and are still determined to go purely for the quick buck with no intent on keeping it real and ultimately giving the good guys a bad rap, that is pretty disturbing from a moral point of view. I am not judging here. That is not my job or intention. I am only informing so we the honest ones out there can continue to pull each other up the ladder of successful ventures and combine our knowledge and wisdom so that we may share in this incredible opportunity we have been givin by technology and the good folks behind it.

We are the building blocks and the foundation that will serve as the model of good business practices. We together can help assist and mentor those who want to make their lives a little bit better by gaining the insight and valuable tools in education and mentorship that we were given and in return can pass down.

Hi Rhonda, Great hub about affiliate marketing ethics! A few comments here. I have run into some very, very nasty mentors along the way. I actually wrote a hub a while back about "online mentor scams". I have always believed the best mentor you'll ever meet is yourself. I also believe in promoting products you are at least somewhat familiar with. I've found that promoting products you don't know or understand simply does not make you any money online. thanks, dawei888

Thank you Dawei888,

I to have ran across the bad guys out there in the past when I first started out marketing online. Very sad to say the least. Dishearted at best. It was for this reason I started my review blog. I will not promote anyone or anything I have not investigated. I also agree we are our own best mentors when we stop to listen to our inner spirit. I personally call that God.

Thank you for being one of the honest ones out there that can help out the many who are looking for the right answers.

Hi Ronda great hub I to have run into most of the bad guys I have been trying to affiliate market for two years and I think I am getting there. I started to try to figure out how to stop or prevent the spam and scam sites. The problem I figured is they are the same as the honest sites.I found it works like this a marketer starts a course and soon figures out his best market is his students. The reality is most about 90+% are going to quit with in three months. The marketer then try,s to sell as much as he can to the student in that time frame. The only way to avoid these people is to teach students what they are up to. I am seeing this is crushing the affiliate programs. I also see the publishers taking so much off the top there is nothing left for affiliates.I almost never use a publishing site anymore. The other reason is they are usually your main competition and they leave you almost no chance to make profit.
