The Story Behind The Tall Cupcakes

Sugarbloom Cupcakes out of Australia, has become quite the popular bakery and site with their Tall Cupcakes.

Bev O, is one of the master cake decorators that blasted on the scene with her tall cupcake designs. I first found Bev's work via flicker and absolutely fell in love with her style. It's edgy and elegant and totally has the essence of tattoo and tribal style art breathing under the frill of it all.

I did a review on this talented cake artist earlier this year and it is still one of the top posts on my website.

The problem is that nobody can seem to get in the Sugarbloom site now. I am guessing they closed the doors on it so they can focus on their decorating.

From what I remember, they had orders backed up for months at a time.

So, due to popular demand from my subscribers, I created a video on how to make these tall cupcakes that everyone has gone nuts over!

I also posted all of the directions in written form with snap shots of each step to create them.

How To Make The Tall Cupcakes With The Holly Leaf

Using Pre Baked Cupcakes, you will first remove the cupcake liners from them. You can do these in regular size or mini size.

You will use three cupcakes for each tall cupcake:)

After you have removed the cupcake liner, you will take a Wilton #4B cake decorating tip and punch out a hole in the center of each cupcake. You will also want to cut the edges around the cupcake so you have the shape of a tube.

Next you will fill each cupcake center with butterccream icing and spread a thin layer of the icing between each cupcake as you stack them.

Next, you will crumb coat each tall cupcake with buttercream icing and let set up in the freezer or fridge.

After your crumb coating has set, you will ice another thin layer of butter cream on each tall cupcake including the sides and the top.

Next, you will prepare your rolled fondant and cut out a circle for the top and a sheet to wrap around the circumference of the tall cupcake.

Next using green fondant strips, you will wrap one ribbon strip around the top and one around the base of the cupcake.

To create the Holly leaf you will take a pinch of the green fondant and shape into a small raindrop using your fingers to create a point at the tip of the raindrop.

Using the pointed end of a wooden skewer, you will create the texture of the holly leaf.

Position three holly leafs on the sides and on the top on the tall cupcake and attach using just a bit of water.

Next, you will take a Red Hot candy and place in the center of each holly leaf cluster.

continue decorating the base and top ribbon with more candy or fondant for embellishing.
